Community Pharmacies

Please consider consulting a community pharmacist first for minor illness. As qualified healthcare professionals, community pharmacists can offer clinical advice and over-the-counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses, such as coughs, colds, sore throats, tummy trouble and aches and pains.

If symptoms suggest it's something more serious, pharmacists have the right training to make sure you get the help you need. For example they will tell you if you need to see a GP, nurse or other healthcare professional.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends - you do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.

Routine / 48-hour / On the Day Appointments

Each patient is allocated a ten minute appointment. However some patients may need longer than this. Should you require a longer appointment please tell the receptionists when making the appointment.

If you wish to see the doctor, nurse, HCA or pharmacist please telephone to make an appointment.

You cannot book an appointment at the reception desk until 10 a.m.

Appointments can be booked online.  Please see reception for further details.

Telephone Consultation and Out-of-Hours appointments

If a problem is very urgent, a telephone consultation with the doctor on call that day will be offered to you. The receptionist will take the telephone number of where you are.

It may not be with your usual GP, and there may be a short wait. The doctor will endeavour to speak to all patients who are ill as soon as possible. Please only use an emergency telephone consultation if the problem really cannot wait. Please ensure you call the surgery before 10:30 to ensure a call.

Out-of-hours GP services are changing

We want to provide the right services at a time which is convenient for you. We’ve listened to feedback from people in our local area, and we are making changes to our out-of-hours appointments to deliver better services for you.

The new way of delivering out-of-hours appointments will give you:

  • Access to more healthcare professionals. This new service will be delivered by professionals including GPs and nurses.
  • More choice about the type of appointment you want. These include a mixture of in-person face-to-face appointments, and remote appointments like telephone, video, or online appointments.
  • Make it more convenient for you to travel to out-of-hours appointments. These appointments are being planned and delivered locally, so it is likely they will available closer to your home.

From Saturday 1 October 2022, out-of-hours appointments will be available from 7 a.m. to   8 a.m. and 6.30pm to 8pm on weekdays, (and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays every other month).

Out-of-hours appointments were previously planned by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) on behalf of many GP practices in a bigger area. From Saturday 1 October 2022, this is now being planned and delivered locally by Primary Care Networks (PCNs).

We are working together with other GP practices in our local area as part of the Aegros  Primary Care Network. You can find out more about Aegros Primary Care Network on our PCN website at https://www.aegrospcn.nhs.uk/

These appointments will not be available as walk-in appointments. You will need to book them in advance

To book an out-of-hours appointment, you should contact your regular GP practice in the usual way. They will advise you on the appointments which are available, and which healthcare professional is the right person to help you.

If you need medical help now but it's not an emergency, you can also go to 111 online or call 111.

Book Appointments Online

You can book appointments on line. To do this you need to register with the practice and obtain a password to enable you to access this service. Once your registration account is created you will need to come into the surgery with your passport or driving licence so that your account can be activated you will be able to use the system to request repeat medication as required. Please complete an application form available from reception.

If you already have your password then you can click the link at the top of this page to access the system.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Hospital Referrals

You will be offered a choice of hospital that specialises in the area of medicine required. You will be given the opportunity to choose where you wish to be seen and an appointment will be made for you at that time.

‘Did Not Attend’ Policy
